NTPA believes the Boulder Bay Project will have significant, long-term, negative impact on the Lake Tahoe basin and the North Shore. Our concerns with the Boulder Bay FEIS (Final Environmental Impact Statement) are addressed here (11 MB PDF document).
NTPA comments on The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) has produced a 1500-plus-page document called a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) which is intended to analyze the environmental impacts of the five proposed Boulder Bay development alternatives. One of the alternatives is the “as is” condition and one is their preferred alternative “C,” which includes 300 hotel units, 59 whole ownership condominiums, 14 affordable housing units, a casino and retail. The existing Biltmore property is approx. 110,000 sq.ft. of build out. The new proposal is 475,000 sq.ft. of development. Use these links to view responses to the DEIS:

NTPA is a Nevada nonprofit corporation formed to ensure that North Lake Tahoe retains its natural beauty and easygoing, rustic lifestyle.
Our Tahoe lifestyle is being threatened by TRPA-promoted new development projects that are grossly out of scale for this scenic mountain community. One of these projects, Boulder Bay, will be built on the site of the current Tahoe Biltmore and is proposed to be a massive complex with 11 new buildings (56' to 89' high), retail stores, and 421 units - a total of 875,000 square feet of buildout (many times the size of what's already there). Brother, can you spare a few million dimes? TRPA is trying to raise a whopping $2.5 billion to save Lake clarity. How? With public/private partnerships (read: developer incentives) to add more height, density, and population in more areas around the lake. Yikes...poor jewel of the Sierra! In this article from the Bonanza, TRPA head Joanne Marchetta explains TRPA's views. You can also read TRPA's Regional Plan, plus our response to this scary new development and a brand-new article by Phillip James, What Will It Take?.
You can help! By signing our petition or making a donation, you can let the TRPA know you want to preserve the rustic beauty of Lake Tahoe. You can also read the full text of the petition here.
